Кандидата від партії Олафа Шольца на виборах до Європейського парламенту в Дрездені побили під час агітації, що викликало серйозні травми. Це стало останнім з ряду інцидентів, які загострили політичну напруженість у Німеччині перед виборами.

Матіас Екке, кандидат від Соціал-демократичної партії, став жертвою нападу, коли він розклеював плакати у п’ятницю ввечері. Його доставили до лікарні з важкими травмами, які вимагали хірургічного втручання.
Міністерка внутрішніх справ Ненсі Фезер заявила, що якщо буде доведено, що цей напад був політично мотивованим, то це буде серйозною загрозою для демократії. Вона наголосила, що ситуація свідчить про новий рівень антидемократичного насильства.
Урядові та опозиційні партії закликали поліцію зміцнити захист політиків і передвиборчих мітингів, оскільки їхні члени стали об’єктом фізичних і словесних нападів.
Нагадаємо, що цього тижня у Бранденбурзі протестувальники оточили автомобіль віцепрезидентки Бундестагу від “Зелених” Катрін Герінг-Екард, не дозволяючи їй поїхати після проведення партійної події. Раніше фермери заблокували пором, на якому перебував співлідер “Зелених”, віцеканцлер та міністр економіки Роберт Габек.
Міністерка внутрішніх справ Німеччини зауважила, що такі протести переходять межу і “не мають нічого спільного з демократією”.
