Пісторіус за збільшення оборонного бюджета. Міністр оборони Борис Пісторіус висловив переконання у необхідності збільшення оборонного бюджету країни на кілька мільярдів євро. Його заява була зроблена під час поїздки до Гамбурга і повідомлена “Європейською правдою” з посиланням на Tagesschau. Пісторіус підкреслив, що для забезпечення надійної оборони потрібен стабільний та стійкий бюджет. Він визначив необхідність інвестування щонайменше двох відсотків від ВВП країни у НАТО та національну обороноздатність.
Міністр підкреслив, що безпека має свою вартість, але він вважає ці витрати обґрунтованими, зокрема, у Німеччині, де розуміють цінність обіцянок про спільну безпеку.
Пісторіус назвав Росію найбільшою загрозою для безпеки та миру в регіоні Європи та Атлантики. Він зазначив, що завдання Німеччини – допомогти Україні в перемозі, наголошуючи на неможливості залишатися осторонь у цьому питанні. Раніше міністр закордонних справ Франції Стефан Сежурне закликав Німеччину спільно зміцнювати оборонну промисловість Європи.
Деякі інші кроки у напрямку спільної оборони були здійснені міністрами оборони Німеччини і Франції, які затвердили плани щодо спільної розробки бойового танка наступного покоління з використанням штучного інтелекту та лазерної технології. Німеччина також бере участь у спільному проєкті створення винищувача FCAS разом з Францією та Іспанією.
